Choose from the following or contact us to discuss your requirements:

Estates and Ruins:

Inspired by Newstead’s architecture and grounds you will use various approaches to create your own sketches of the ruins, estate and landscapes of Newstead Abbey.

You will then explore different approaches to using watercolour paint and use these to create a final painting.

Aspects of this session take place outdoors but will be adapted in bad weather.

Watercolour in the Japanese Garden:

 March-Sept only

Based in the beautiful Japanese Gardens at Newstead you will be led though a series of short activities to capture the colour and foliage of the garden. You will then have the chance to work on a longer painting focusing on the unique landscape and its fauna.

These sessions will take place outside so please wear appropriate clothing and footwear.

Please be aware that there are steps throughout the Japanese Gardens and it is inaccessible for wheelchair users.

Forms Divinely Beautiful: Still life drawing session:

This workshop will give you the chance to explore different medium and mark making approaches to capture light, tone and shape using beautiful draped fabrics and fascinating museum objects from our handling collection.

You will be led through a series of quick sketch activities to develop your observational drawing skills, focusing on light and shade, shadow and shape before being lead through a longer still life study.

This session takes place inside the House.
