Explorations in creative writing, poetry and the world of the Romantic poets.
GCSE English Language: Explorations in Creative reading and writing- demonstrating narrative and descriptive skills in response to a written prompt, scenario or visual image.
GCSE English Literature: Love and Relationships or Power and Conflict (poems by the Romantics featured in the GCSE poetry anthology)- using understanding of writers’ social, historical and cultural contexts to inform evaluation.
Unseen poetry: analysing and comparing key features of unseen poems such as their content, theme, structure and use of language.
In this session:
- A team of specialists will lead this interactive day of learning in the beautiful surroundings of Newstead Abbey.
- A inspiring context for students to build their skills in creative writing, to bring alive the history and world of the Romantic poets featured within the GCSE anthologies and to develop some of the critical thinking skills needed to tackle unseen poems.
This day will provide a fantastic opportunity for students studying GCSE English Literature and Language. It is ideal for students who are currently or about to start their study of poetry in the GCSE anthologies and for those wishing to develop their own creative writing skills.
Study day time: 10am-2.35pm
Cost per group: £12 per pupil.
