Did you know?…

Lord Byron was born on this day, 22nd January, in 1788

He would go on to become an extraordinary scholar, political figurehead, traveller and athlete, as well as the most visionary and celebrated English writer since Shakespeare.

Byron inherited Newstead Abbey, along with his title, on turning 21 in 1809.

His home would be the greatest of his many inspirations for his poetry.

In normal times, we welcome visitors from all over the world to see Lord Byron’s extraordinary legacy, and the many personal objects that are now displayed in his former home.

Although our Historic House and many facilities are currently closed, we still wanted to note this special day, as his legacy plays an important role making Newstead Abbey what it is today.
